Queens Public Library
Disparity Study

WELCOME

Queens Public Library (“Library”) is conducting a comprehensive Disparity Study (“Study”), led by MGT Consulting Group (“MGT”). The overall purpose of the Study is to determine the possible effects of factors like race or gender on businesses’ ability to do business in the Library’s market area, in both the public and private sectors.

To understand whether race and gender has a role in this market area, MGT will collect data to identify the availability of firms owned by minorities, women, and service-disabled veterans, and the utilization of these firms as contractors and subcontractors in the Library’s marketplace. In addition to analyses of quantitative data, the Disparity Study will also examine qualitative data about business discrimination (to the extent that it exists) provided by business owners, trade associations, business organizations, and other stakeholders.

We encourage ALL business owners to provide information about their experiences, particularly concerning discrimination while doing business or attempting to do business with the Library and other public or private entities in the Library’s market area. We hope that all firms will participate, and not strictly those that are certified as minority- or women-owned businesses (“M/WBE”) or service-disabled veteran-owned businesses (“SDVOB”). For ways to get involved, please see the “Business Engagement” page of this website.

For its Disparity Studies, MGT conducts an Availability Analysis, which is an apples-to-apples comparison of contracts and those who win them by commodity code. It is real, specific, and detailed information about your City/County/Area. In addition, MGT uses data analytics to evaluate the availability of all opportunities — regardless of dollar amount — to M/WBE and non-M/WBE firms that have worked on teams as subcontractors.
